Store images in the top-level "images" folder
The rich-text editing widget includes a gadget to include images in your documents. You'll have to play with it to get a feel for how it works (the plone.org Plone3 User Manual's Adding Pages instructions includes guidance on adding images). The important thing we need to mention here is to situate the images you upload in the images folder so they're don't clutter the site navigation that everybody sees. The images folder is included in the image-add dialog, so it's easy to get to while you're inserting an image.
