Software and Systems Development

I'm a software and systems developer interested in making stuff that is simple to use and effective. I'm particularly interested in how information can be organized to make collaboration easy.

I've been centrally involved in the design and development of several substantial, widely used applications, particularly open-source applications which support various kinds of group communication and collaboration. Some of those systems have been and/or are being used very widely, like GNU Mailman and Emacs extensions that are included with Emacs. I've also participated in research efforts like knowbots and the Python grail browser, and contributed to the development of even more widely used programming infrastructure like Python and Zope.
